About I’m Anie Luthien — also Claudia Fernandez. Art is my way of observing and remembering the world around me.

I paint because standing before a landscape feels necessary. Each painting is a response — an attempt to hold that encounter a little longer. Through watercolor and oil, I translate places and experiences into images that carry memory.

Landscape is at the center of my practice. It holds time and human presence. We move through it, and it shapes us in return. I return to it again and again as a way of understanding where I stand.

Experimentation is central to my process. I move between materials, surfaces, and techniques in search of my own language — one that continues to evolve. Each painting emerges from that exploration.

Originally from Uruguay and now based in Toronto, I have lived in different countries across Latin America. Moving between places has shaped how I experience land and how I understand my place within it. Themes of memory, belonging, and transition emerge from that lived experience.

My practice is ongoing — a way of staying attentive to the landscapes that surround and quietly define us.
